PRÉSENTATION  In the first half of 2007, during the latest French Presidential elections, Nour-Eddine Skiker, then in charge of the Rosa Luxembourg Youth Center, situated in the Landy section of Aubervilliers, invited the Laboratoires to organize evening debates to help young people decrypt media language. To keep the program alive after the elections, Mediacritik was transformed into a monthly workshop run by artists whose work relates to media images and discourse. Each hands-on workshop was conceived to develop and discuss possible analytic tools. So, between December 2007 and May 2008, young people from Aubervilliers, in groups of eight to ten, worked successively with Jan Kopp, Julia Varga, Jan Peters, Thomas Hirschhorn and Martin Le Chevalier. An evening was devoted to presenting this work, which was introduced by the participants themselves. For the occasion, we asked each artist to write up minutes for his or her workshop for publication. |
