AURÉLIEN FROMENT–RYAN GANDER / 2005

Ryan Gander, artist, born in 1976 in Chester, lives and works in London. Aurélien Froment, artist, born in 1976 in Angers, lives and works in Paris.

The Laboratoires’ proposal to have two artists work on a project at the same time offered multiple work conditions. Although both artists Ryan Gander and Aurélien Froment know each other and have similar interests, they are now working together for the first time and propose an exhibit, which turns the premises into a territory of fiction. Their project completely redefines circulation in the space of the Laboratoires and their function, and questions the notion of exhibition as a work of art itself; it will contain works produced by the artists separately or together, which will be the clues of a mystery. This large installation is structured in different units, including a film shot by Aurélien Froment in Arcosanti, a utopian city of which construction was started thirty years ago by Italian architect Paolo Soleri in the United States. The film will be produced by the Laboratoires, and so will a publication that will constitute the trace of the exchanges between the artistes during the elaboration of the project.
