His work comprises texts, projects, photographs, videos, happenings…, articulated around a reflection on the possible representations of a country at war. Using the example of Lebanon as a way to represent, to remember and to give war a sense, Walid Raad examines the nature of collective and individual memories and their role in the construction of official historical narrations. Walid Raad is a member of the Arab Image Foundation (Beyrouth / New York, www.fai.org.lb) and is a founding member of the Altas Group (www.theatlasgroup.org). He teaches at the Cooper Union art school of New York. This publication is the first book on the Atlas Group; it gathers the documents coming from Doctor Fakhouri’s notebooks: notes, photographs, and collages.
