Gilles Gentner was born in Colmar in 1967. In 1985 he begins his formation in Alsatian cultural centres as stage manager, sound or light electrician. In 1991 he meets Olivier Py and becomes the assistant of Patrice Trottier, his light designer.
In 1994, he meets Laurent Gutmann (today director of the national arts centre for theatre of Thionville) and it is the beginning of a long collaboration, he creates the lights of every Gutmann show. He shares his light designer's activities between various projects: theatre projects with Catherine Marnas, Arnaud Churin, Etienne Pommeret, Jean-Baptist Sastre, Ann Caillère, Louido De Lenqueseing; dance projects with Jérome Bel, Boris Charmatz, Olga De Soto, Sylvain Prunenec, Tomeo Verges, Cuqui Jerez, Claudia Triozzi, Richard Siegal; fashion with Cartier; installation with Laurent P. Berger, boarder in the villa Medicis in Rome and Tomeo Verges; opera with Guiseppe Frigeni; music with Xavier Boussiron.
