• Residency 2017

From December 2016 choreographer and filmmaker Alain Michard will be in residency at Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers in order to pursue his project En danseuse. The residency will be organised into different phases that build and articulate this project combining creation, research and public presentations.

En danseuse is a space for artistic collaboration that brings together several choreographers and artists from other disciplines. In parallel, students and young artists will be invited to participate in educational and experimental sessions.

En danseuse is grounded in the following premise: the choreographer’s body is the very root of his or her work — its matrix. By extension, this body carries within it a singular History of of dance, made up of snippets, of more or less reconstructed memories, narratives, myths images, experiences, some of which are directly linked to dance, while others are drawn from everyday life.

This premise gives rise to the question of finding the means of revealing this History, namely by seeking it out in the deepest recesses of memory. To this end, Alain Michard brings various artists together, making them face his camera, cornering them, to portray them “dancing on the pedals” (en danseuse), to capture this memory and, in this way, to interrogate the role of images in dance History.

En danseuse, intertwining dance and filmed images, will be presented to the public in two different formats: the first presentation will involve different performative forms followed, at the close of the residency, by an installation made in collaboration with Nicolas Floc’h, that will present a ‘collection’ of filmed dances.

This residency project at Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers will enjoy the support and participation of artists Adva Zakai, DD Dorvillier, Loïc Touzé, Lenio Kaklea, Martine Pisani, Filiz Sizanli, Marcelline Delbecq, Matthieu Bouvier and Alice Gautier.

The En danseuse project will also be pursued in other sites with other artists, including Benoît Lachambre, Mette Ingvarsten, Rémy Héritier, Jennifer Lacey, Mickaël Phelippeau, Julie Nioche, Emmanuelle Huynh, Laurent Pichaud and Deborah Hay.
