Session 2003

JAN KOPP

Jan Kopp is an artist, born in 1970 in Germany; he works in Paris.
The workshop proposed by Jan Kopp, entitled “Rien du tout” (aller simple), consisted in elaborating and creating situations or production modes from scratch. Every action or production was defined by simple questions such as: When can one say an event exists? How can it be identified? What can we do with it? What does this event become? How can it be materialized, translated, reproduced, communicated, manipulated, staged? The workshop was elaborated from the proposal of a series of exercises and events, which generated the production of a video film, presented in the context of the project Entraînement, initiated by the Compagnie Edna and Siemens at the Ménagerie de Verre.

LATIFA LAABISSI

Latifa Laâbissi is a choreographer. She was born in 1964 and lives in Rennes.
Latifa Laâbissi’s workshop dealt with expressiveness and the way to create forms and contents making it possible to invest several levels of representation, through the evocation of different figures of choreographic art. The elaboration of short scores to be interpreted personally or to be addressed to others was analyzed with respect to our fabrication modes and allowed the activation of a jubilation space, an invention present in learned forms.

GRAND MAGASIN

The company Grand Magasin, created in 1982, groups Pascale Murtin (born in 1961), Bettina Atala (born in 1977) and François Hiffler (born in 1961); they work in Paris.

The workshop led by the company Grand Magasin concentrated on working collectively or in small groups on scenic situations inside the studio as a parallel to experiences outside, in the town of Aubervilliers. During the course of the workshop, the participants were invited to develop mini-creations inspired by working protocols set up by the artists. Various creation elements were presented to the public as a mini-show and a film was projected.

JOSEPH GRIGELY

Joseph Grigely is an artist, born in 1956; he lives in Chicago.
This workshop allowed the questioning of the notion of “transversality”, a word used to describe the shift from one technique of representation to another - such as the representation of sound through visual imagery. How can one “see” sound? How can one “listen” to shapes and movements? Joseph Grigely’s workshop, fundamentally mobile in its form, developed around the question of language and communication, the artist proposing a working protocol each day, involving the whole group. The workshop took place in English and was facilitated by the presence of Kevin Cikatricis, certified interpreter of sign language and specialized in the cultural field. The workshop generated several written productions (reproduced in a portfolio enclosed in the Journal des Laboratoires n°2) and a film.
