Mathieu K. Abonnenc is an artist (born in 1977, lives and works in Metz France). He dedicates his work to those forgotten and marginalised in recent history, people and events tied to 20th century emancipation of identity. Using investigation and documentation he attempts to deconstruct the nature of the representations of the geographic Other. Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc’s research in recent years has taken a decisive turn. The figure of the colonised person (and the coloniser) is no longer hidden in places merely hinted at by their absence or in the film representations of a dying world. This research, related to the construction of a post-colonial identity and the formal work that results from it, opens up new possibilities. One of those possibilities consists of imagining collective work – flow and exchange are always part of it – that can effectively combat fading and forgetting.
